Kano Government Moves to Revive Historic Rurum Tourist Site in Rano

The Kano State Government has announced a bold initiative to restore and reposition one of the state’s most historic tourism assets — the Rurum Tourist Attraction in Rano Local Government Area.
Zonal Information Officer, Rano, Rabiu Khalil Kura in a statement quoted the Commissioner for Tourism and Culture, Hon. Aisha Lawan Saji, to have given the indication during an on-site inspection.
She revealed that the once-celebrated tourist destination, which has remained abandoned for over forty years, will soon undergo full rehabilitation.

“Rurum holds deep cultural and economic value. Restoring this landmark is a strategic move that will not only revive our heritage but also boost tourism revenue and empower surrounding communities,” Hon. Aisha stated.

She noted that the project is part of a larger phased plan by the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf-led administration to breathe new life into neglected tourist sites across the state.
The plan aims to promote cultural preservation, enhance local economic activity, and position Kano as a top tourism destination in Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Kano State Tourism Board, Alhaji Tukur Wada Sagagi, commended the government’s commitment, describing the Rurum site as “a sleeping giant in Kano’s tourism landscape.”
He expressed optimism that with the right investment in infrastructure and promotion, the site could attract both domestic and international tourists.

Also present was the Chairman of Rano Local Government Council, Malam Naziru Yau, who expressed appreciation to the state government for remembering the historic site.
He assured that the council would provide full support to ensure the smooth execution of the project.

The inspection team included, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Directors from the Kano State Tourism Board, Alhaji Ado Danazumi, Director of Personnel Management, Rano L.G, Head of Community and Social Development Department, Rano L.G and other key stakeholders from the tourism and cultural sectors
