Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has extended warm congratulations to his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on the occasion of his 50th birthday, describing the milestone as a moment of honour and deep reflection.

In a heartfelt tribute, Governor Ododo hailed former Governor Bello as a courageous and transformational leader whose legacy continues to shape lives and communities across Kogi State and Nigeria.
His Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah quoted him thus,

“Governor Yahaya Bello made history in 2016 as the youngest Governor in Nigeria and the youngest ever to lead Kogi State. He became a pathfinder for a new generation of leadership,” Ododo said. “He built a system where sons and daughters of anyone—regardless of status—could aspire to lead. I am here today as Chief Servant of Kogi State and a living testament to that vision.”

He praised Bello’s inclusive governance style, noting that his administration dismantled political barriers by empowering youths and women across all wards and local governments.

“Bello raised men and women not just by giving titles, but by giving them purpose. He opened the doors of public service to ordinary people and elevated loyal followers into shining examples of leadership,” Ododo added.

Governor Ododo highlighted several key achievements of the Bello administration, including reforms in civil service, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security—pillars that continue to guide the current government’s agenda.

“From investing over 30% of the state’s annual budget in education, to establishing two new universities in four years, Governor Bello laid a solid foundation. Today, we are building on those gains,” he noted. “His 35% affirmative action policy for women in leadership remains a hallmark of inclusive governance.”

He emphasized that his own emergence as Governor is a direct result of Bello’s deliberate investment in nurturing future leaders, stating that the enduring legacy of the former Governor is evident in the strength and sustainability of the current administration.

Governor Ododo concluded by praying for divine guidance and greater accomplishments for Yahaya Bello as he marks this golden jubilee.
