Edo Line Rolls Back to Life as Okpebholo Drives Transport Renaissance

In a bold move to reclaim Edo State’s legacy as a transport powerhouse, Governor Monday Okpebholo is steering the historic Edo Line back to life—signaling the state’s reentry into Nigeria’s critical inter-state transport map.

Dormant since 2017, the once-reliable public transit company—founded by visionary leader Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia—is undergoing a full-scale revival with over 100 brand-new Toyota Hiace buses purchased earlier this year to kickstart its operations.

“This is not just about transportation—it’s about restoring dignity, creating jobs, and connecting Edo to opportunities across the nation,” Governor Okpebholo said during an inspection of the refurbished terminal in Benin City.

The new Edo Line, officially launching June 27, 2025, is set to offer a modern suite of services—interstate passenger travel, courier delivery, and digital ticketing—with routes spanning Lagos, the North, the East, and surrounding states.

What was once an abandoned landmark is fast becoming a symbol of efficient public service delivery. Within his first 100 days in office, Okpebholo has transformed a forgotten relic into a strategic asset for regional commerce and daily mobility.
“Edo is back on the map—not just in transport, but in leadership that delivers,” said Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, who joined the Governor on-site.

Beyond restoring mobility, the Edo Line resurrection is projected to generate hundreds of jobs, ease transport stress for commuters, and stimulate local economies along major corridors.

The initiative has earned the administration early praise as a model for fast, focused governance—turning public nostalgia into practical service.

With sleek new buses, modern infrastructure, and a clear leadership vision, Edo Line isn’t just making a comeback—it’s accelerating a movement to reposition Edo as the heartbeat of Nigeria’s mobility economy.
