In a swift and determined response to a growing security threat, Nasarawa State police have intercepted an AK-47 rifle, live ammunition, and a stolen motorcycle in Keana, signaling a crucial win in the fight against armed crime in the region.

The recovered firearm, along with two loaded magazines and 45 rounds of live bullets, was found abandoned after a suspect — believed to be linked to violent criminal activity — fled into nearby bushes, escaping arrest during a police checkpoint operation.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, revealed that this breakthrough followed an urgent tip-off, prompting Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro-Mohammed to launch an immediate manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large.

“This isn’t just about weapons — it’s about the safety of every family and community in Nasarawa,” SP Nansel said. “Every day, armed criminals threaten our homes and livelihoods. Our officers are working tirelessly to stop them before tragedy strikes.”

The operation took place on the Giza-Kadarko Road, a critical route where residents have reported suspicious activities in recent months. The suspect’s abrupt flight after being stopped reflects the dangerous and desperate nature of those trafficking arms in the state.

Residents of Keana and surrounding areas are urged to stay vigilant and report any unusual activity, helping police close in on those who put the public at risk.

“Community cooperation is our greatest weapon,” Nansel added. “Together, we can ensure that Nasarawa remains safe and secure for all.”
