Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has set the record straight after reports claimed that former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, narrowly escaped an attack by Boko Haram insurgents last Friday.
Ndume clarified in a statement on Tuesday that he never said the general was attacked. Instead, he said Buratai town in Borno State—where the former army chief is from—was the target of the attack.
During a recent interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Ndume explained that insurgents struck Buratai town near a military base. Soldiers defended the area, but some military vehicles and equipment were damaged or stolen.
He also highlighted the worsening security situation across Nigeria, noting all regions except the South South are facing serious challenges, with the Southwest being the safest.
Senator Ndume called on the media to report carefully to avoid misunderstandings that harm the reputation of public figures and news outlets.
