Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has issued a bold call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately sack underperforming ministers and security chiefs, warning that the ongoing hardship and insecurity in the country demand urgent corrective action at the highest levels of government.
Appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the former Abia State governor said the Tinubu administration cannot afford to retain officials who have failed to deliver results, especially as millions of Nigerians continue to face worsening living conditions.
“Some people working with the President should be relieved of their duties,” Kalu declared. “Some of them should go — both in the security sector and among the ministers. President Tinubu must be courageous enough to sack them.”
According to Kalu, Nigerians at the grassroots are yet to feel the impact of Tinubu’s economic reforms. He pointed to food insecurity and unrest as major barriers to progress.
“Nigerians in the lower areas are still suffering,” he said. “They have not started benefiting from the changes the President has made. The changes are trickling down, and it may take one or two more years — if insecurity does not continue to stop people from going to the farm.”
Kalu, a ranking senator and influential voice within the APC, stressed that any attempt to redeem Nigeria must begin with decisive action against complacency and inefficiency in government.
“There’s no sentiment about redeeming Nigeria,” he said. “If we really want to fix this country, then some people must go.”
His comments come amid growing calls for a cabinet shake-up, with critics pointing to economic hardship, persistent insecurity, and weak policy implementation as reasons for urgent reforms.
So far, the presidency has not responded to the senator’s call.
