Ebira People Rally Behind Senator Natasha, Urge Senate to Uphold Justice

The Ebira People’s Association (EPA) has voiced strong confidence in Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan while calling on the Nigerian Senate to curb the rise of political intimidation and suppression.

In a statement issued on Friday by Dr. Oyibo Godwin, the President General of EPA, the association expressed deep concern over recent events in the Senate, particularly the ongoing tensions between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha, who represents Kogi Central.

The group highlighted a series of incidents that have raised alarms, from the controversial “nightclub” remark to Senator Natasha’s sudden removal as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content, and most recently, her displacement from her seat in the Senate Chamber. EPA noted that these actions appear punitive, given the public discourse surrounding them.

“While we have remained silent, it is not out of indifference,” the statement read. “We believe the Senate, composed of distinguished Nigerians, is capable of resolving internal disputes while respecting the rights, dignity, and privileges of all senators, regardless of tribe, gender, or party affiliation.”

However, EPA condemned the growing involvement of tribal organizations in the matter, suggesting it has escalated beyond Senate politics and now threatens the political stability of Kogi Central.

The association assured that it is closely monitoring the actions, statements, and behavior of key players ahead of the Ethics and Privileges Committee’s review of the case, vowing to respond appropriately when necessary.

Reaffirming their support, EPA emphasized that Senator Natasha has so far represented Kogi Central admirably in her legislative duties and should not face persecution under any guise.
