Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has taken a bold step to honor the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes, pledging unwavering support for their families and veterans.
Speaking at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the historic World War Cenotaph in Lokoja, Governor Ododo described the event as a solemn reminder of the courage and patriotism displayed by Nigeria’s armed forces.
In a landmark announcement, he revealed that widows and children of fallen soldiers will be immediately enrolled in the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme, granting them free access to healthcare. He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting injured officers and veterans, ensuring they receive the care and dignity they deserve.
“We owe it to our fallen heroes to provide for their loved ones and to create a nation worthy of their ultimate sacrifice,” Governor Ododo stated.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his dedication to peace and security under the Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the need for unity to uphold the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
The event included the traditional wreath-laying ceremony, where the governor, military leaders, traditional rulers, and veterans paid moving tributes to the fallen.
Residents at the event praised the governor’s initiative, calling it a vital step toward recognizing the bravery of the nation’s defenders and supporting their families.
