Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has called for ethnic unity and collective purpose to drive peace, economic growth, and infrastructural development across the state.

Bello made the call during his homecoming visit to the Palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammed Tijani Anaje, in Okene on Tuesday, following his release on bail by an Abuja High Court.

Accompanied by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other dignitaries, Bello emphasized that his administration laid a strong foundation for progress and urged Kogi’s diverse ethnic groups to unite in support of the current government.

The former governor stressed that unity remains a non-negotiable tool for development.
“Without unity, we cannot achieve the progress we desire as a state,” Bello said. “I appeal to all Kogites to rally behind Governor Ododo and support his vision for building on the gains we achieved.”
Bello also canvassed prayers and patience for President Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence in his policies and programs to transform Nigeria and deliver economic growth.
Addressing a mammoth crowd that gathered to welcome the former governor, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo praised Bello’s administration for laying a solid foundation for governance, particularly in civil service reforms and prompt salary payments.
“The success of my administration today is built on the good foundation and commitment of my predecessor,” Ododo said. “I remain dedicated to serving Kogites and will continue to pursue policies that promote unity and development across the state.”
Ododo pledged to strengthen unity and assured the people of his readiness to serve selflessly, even stating that he was willing to prostrate before the people if necessary to ensure harmony and inclusiveness.
The Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr Tijani Ahmed Anaje, expressed joy over Bello’s visit and used the occasion to urge Ebira people, both at home and in the diaspora, to prioritize peace and unity.
“Our people must speak with one voice and place Ebira’s collective interest above personal ambitions,” the monarch advised.
The Royal Father’s call for peace was echoed by prayers from the Chief Imam of Ebiraland, Sheik Salihu Abere, alongside Pastor Ejuwon John and Chief Mariba Amos, representing the Christian and traditional faiths, respectively.
Bello’s homecoming not only rekindled hope for unity but also reaffirmed the need for continuity and collaboration to sustain Kogi’s development. With blessings from traditional and religious leaders, the event signaled a renewed commitment to peace, governance, and progress in the state.
