    Okpebholo Congratulates NUJ President, First Female Deputy President

    The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated Mr. Alhassan Yahya on his election as the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Dr. (Mrs.) Bimbo Oyetunde on her historic election as the first female National Deputy President of the NUJ.

    In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo described Mr. Yahya’s election as a recognition of his dedication to journalistic excellence.
    He urged the new NUJ President to continue promoting the core values of a free press, emphasizing its crucial role in fostering transparency and accountability in governance.

    The governor hailed Dr. Oyetunde’s election as a landmark achievement in the history of Nigerian journalism, praising her for her unwavering commitment to truth, integrity, and professionalism.
    “Her success is a testament to her hard work and sets a precedent for greater inclusivity and representation in the media industry,” he noted.

    Governor Okpebholo also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Edo State Government and the NUJ, pledging to support initiatives that empower journalists to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
    “Together, we must create an environment that upholds freedom of expression and the pursuit of truth,” he added.

    The governor’s message underscored Edo State’s commitment to a robust and independent press, recognizing its vital role in shaping public discourse and promoting democratic values.
