Gov. Yusuf Congratulates New NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahaya
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Comrade Alhassan Yahaya on his election as the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Comrade Yahaya emerged victorious during the 8th Triennial Delegates Conference held on Thursday in Owerri, Imo State.
In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf described Yahaya’s election as a testament to the trust and confidence reposed in him and his team by journalists across the country.
He urged the new NUJ leadership to foster inclusivity, uphold the ethical standards of journalism, and prioritize capacity-building initiatives to keep pace with global best practices.
Governor Yusuf underscored the essential role of a free press as the Fourth Estate of the Realm, highlighting its importance in safeguarding democracy and promoting societal progress.
He reaffirmed Kano State’s commitment to the welfare and safety of journalists, acknowledging their indispensable role in educating and informing the public.
The governor expressed confidence that Comrade Yahaya’s leadership would bring transformative achievements to the NUJ, strengthening the media industry for the benefit of the nation.

Kano Network for Orphans grieves over demise of Alh. Yahya Bashir
The Kano Network for Orphans and Human Development had expressed deep grieve over the death of Alh. Mukhtar Yahya Bashir, a retired Assistant Controller of Customs and a passionate philanthropist.
Alhaji Bashir passed away on December 4, 2024, in Egypt after battling a long illness.
Alh. Bashir’s dedication to improving the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in Kano State was evident through his numerous contributions to the organization. His efforts included providing a dedicated vehicle for orphan services, establishing a Tahfeez school for orphans, and initiating an annual feeding program that has supported many children in need.
The Kano Network for Orphans and Human Development expressed deep gratitude for Alh. Bashir’s invaluable impact on the community. “His selfless work has made a lasting difference in the lives of many vulnerable children, and his legacy will continue to inspire us as we carry on his mission,” the organization stated.
In a statement, the Chairman of the organization, Comrade Adam Umar, described Alh. Bashir’s passing as a great loss to the orphans’ community in Kano State. “His dedication to the well-being of orphans and his unwavering commitment to their care will be remembered forever,” Umar said.
The Kano Network for Orphans and Human Development has asked for prayers for the soul of Alh. Bashir and for strength for his family during this difficult time. The organization also extended its condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his charitable work.

Emir of Rano Calls for Peace, Appoints New Village Head in Kibiya

The Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umaru, has urged community leaders to prioritize peace and development, particularly in resolving conflicts between farmers and herders within the emirate.
Speaking during the official appointment of Alhaji Alkassim Abdullahi Shike as the new Village Head of Shike in Kibiya Local Government Area, the Emir emphasized the importance of fostering harmony, improving education, and enhancing healthcare services.
“Community leadership is about service and commitment to peace. I urge all leaders to work together for the progress of our people,” Dr. Umaru said,
He stressed the need for unity in tackling communal challenges.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Shike expressed gratitude to the Emir for the honor and pledged to continue the developmental efforts started by his father.
He called on the people of Shike to support him with cooperation and prayers.
“This is a call to serve, and I promise to work diligently for the betterment of our community,” Shike said.
The ceremony highlighted the Emirate’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and community development.

Rano LG Chairman Swears In New Secretary, Supervisory Councilors, Advisers
***Urges Commitment to Excellence
The Executive Chairman of Rano Local Government, Hon. Muhammad Ñaziru Yau, has officially sworn in the newly appointed Local Government Secretary, Supervisory Councilors, and Advisers, urging them to prioritize hard work, transparency, and accountability in their roles.
During the swearing-in ceremony, held on Wednesday, Hon. Yau highlighted the importance of the event, calling it a pivotal moment in his administration’s efforts to improve governance and promote development in the region. He charged the appointees with the responsibility of ensuring excellence in governance and service delivery for the betterment of Rano Local Government.
Zonal Information Officer, Rano Local Government, Rabiu Khalil Kura in a statement on Wednesday quoted the chairman to have said,
“I urge you to take your responsibilities seriously,” Hon. Yau said. “You must work with dedication, transparency, accountability, and inclusivity as we strive to make Rano Local Government a model of excellence.”
The newly sworn-in officials include Ismail Yusuf, who has been appointed as the Local Government Secretary, and Supervisory Councillors such as Lawan Usman, Kabiru Yusuf, Lawan Hamza, Haruna Muhd, Babangida Abubakar, Abbas Dabo, Dalha Shehu, and others.
In his address, the Director of Personnel Management, Tijjani Saadu, pledged full support from the council staff to help the new appointees achieve the administration’s goals.
On behalf of the appointees, Ismail Yusuf, the newly sworn-in Secretary, assured the council and the people of Rano that the team would leverage their experience and work tirelessly to drive the council’s growth and progress.
