Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has officially launched the construction of the 20KM Obajana-Uro-Aku rural road, which will connect parts of Lokoja and Adavi local government areas.
Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Ismaila Isah in a statement indicated that the project is part of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), supported by the World Bank and other stakeholders.
He said the road represents the first phase of a larger initiative to develop over 65KM of rural roads across the state.
“The goal is to improve access to farms, farming communities, and markets, thereby enhancing food security.”

During the flag-off ceremony held in Apata near Obajana, Governor Ododo emphasized the crucial role rural roads play in his administration’s development agenda.
He noted that the roads will not only facilitate transportation but also act as a catalyst for rural economic growth.

The governor urged the communities benefiting from the project to take ownership and responsibility, while warning contractors to maintain integrity and professionalism throughout the project.

The State Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engineer Abdulmutalib Mohammed highlighted that the project is aimed to reduce transportation costs and improve accessibility for farmers and traders.

National Coordinator of RAAMP, Engineer Aminu Bodinga,
represented by Mrs. Joy Amadi, praised Governor Ododo for his commitment to rural development, which will improve connectivity to markets and social services for rural residents.

Sheidu Obansa, the State Coordinator of the project, added that the network of rural roads would create new opportunities and promote agricultural development.

Olu of Oworo, Muhammed Adoga Baiyerohi, commended the initiative, stating that it would enhance agricultural development and reduce traffic congestion along the Obajana road. Other traditional leaders echoed this sentiment, thanking Governor Ododo for his support of rural communities, primarily comprised of farmers and traders.
