The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, says Nigerians are increasingly demanding a government that delivers security, jobs, functional schools, working hospitals and economic opportunities rather than excuses.
Obi made the declaration after a series of political engagements across Kogi, Benue and Enugu states, where he met party supporters, community stakeholders, traders and residents.
In Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Obi, alongside the NDC’s Kogi East senatorial candidate, High Chief Peter Ameh, engaged stakeholders and party faithful on the challenges confronting their communities.
He said the concerns raised by citizens reflected the depth of the country’s problems, particularly insecurity, unemployment, poverty, poor healthcare and the decline in educational standards.
Obi argued that Nigerians were not demanding privileges from government but the basic conditions required for citizens to live secure and dignified lives.
According to him, Nigerians want to live without fear, find meaningful employment, send their children to functional schools, access quality healthcare and have an economy that gives businesses and households the opportunity to prosper.
He said the similarities in complaints across Kogi, Benue and Enugu showed that the challenges facing Nigerians were widespread and required urgent political action.
At Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State and Obollo Afor in Enugu State, Obi also interacted with traders and residents, listening to concerns over their businesses, livelihoods and the wider economic hardship.
He assured them that an NDC government under his leadership would prioritise citizens’ welfare, protect livelihoods and create an environment where businesses could grow.
Obi also urged supporters to remain committed to the democratic process, turn out in large numbers during elections and, most importantly, protect their votes from the polling unit through the final declaration of results.
He later attended the 65th birthday celebration of Evangelist Sunday Oguche in Okpo, Olamaboro LGA, describing him as a preacher and community builder dedicated to serving God and his people.
Obi subsequently paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Igwe Willy Ezugwu, Eze Ka Eze I of Ideke Land and Eze Ogbozalla III of Opi Kingdom in Nsukka, Enugu State.
Reflecting on his engagements, the NDC presidential candidate said the message from Nigerians was clear: government must begin to work for the people.
He maintained that Nigeria has the resources and human capacity to succeed but needs leadership capable of deploying them responsibly to improve citizens’ lives.
“As we move forward on this journey, our message remains unequivocal: Nigeria can succeed, and government can be made to serve its people.
“A New Nigeria is POssible.”
