The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed more than 40 of its staff members over alleged corruption and financial misconduct in the past three years.
EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, disclosed this on Monday during a briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on the achievements recorded under his leadership.
According to Olukoyede, the affected personnel were dismissed after being found involved in various acts of corruption and financial malpractice.
He added that the commission had also commenced the prosecution of more than five former staff members over alleged offences.
The EFCC chairman said the disciplinary measures were part of efforts to strengthen accountability and ensure that officers entrusted with fighting corruption do not become involved in the same misconduct they are expected to prevent.
Olukoyede stressed the importance of maintaining integrity within the commission, saying the anti-graft agency must lead by example in its fight against financial crimes.
The development comes as the EFCC continues its efforts to improve internal accountability while intensifying investigations and prosecutions of corruption and financial crime cases across the country.
