Bandits have killed the District Head of Gallah in Niger State, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf, following reports that he had warned gunmen against infiltrating his community.

Yusuf, also known as the Magajin Garin Gallah, was a traditional ruler under the Borgu Emirate in Agwara Local Government Area of the state.

The incident was first reported by security analyst Bakatsine in a post on X. The slain monarch was also identified as a brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the monarch’s palace during the weekend and killed him in what appeared to be a retaliatory attack.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the exact time of the attack and whether there were other casualties, were not immediately clear.

The office of the Chairman of Borgu Local Government Council confirmed the death, describing the incident as “particularly painful and deeply disturbing.”

The Borgu Emirate also confirmed the death of Yusuf and another prominent member of the emirate, Alhaji Garba Alhassan, the Tafidan Borgu.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by Ibrahim Toriq Abubakar, the emirate described the deaths as a major loss to the traditional institution and the people of Borgu.

“The Borgu Emirate mourns the painful loss of two great sons and princes of the Emirate: Alhaji Garba Alhassan (Tafidan Borgu) and Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf (Magajin Garin Gallah),” the statement said.

The emirate extended condolences to the families, relatives, friends and associates of the deceased.

It also prayed for Allah to forgive their shortcomings, grant them eternal rest and give their families the strength to bear the loss.

The killing comes amid continued security concerns in parts of Niger State, where communities have faced attacks and threats from armed groups.
