The Northern Senators Forum has congratulated the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his 70th birthday, praising his contributions to peace, unity and national development.
In a statement signed by the forum’s Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the senators described the Sultan’s life as one dedicated to public service, leadership and national cohesion.
The forum noted that the Sultan’s career began in the Nigerian Army, where he rose to the rank of Brigadier-General and served in military and peacekeeping operations.
He later served in presidential security and diplomatic roles before becoming the 20th Sultan of Sokoto in 2006.
The Northern Senators Forum said his experience in the military and public service had helped shape his approach to traditional and religious leadership.
According to the senators, the Sultan has used his position to promote peaceful coexistence, interfaith dialogue and cooperation across Nigeria’s religious and ethnic divides.
They said his voice had remained important at a time when the country was facing security, political and social challenges.
The forum joined Nigerians in thanking Almighty Allah for granting the Sultan 70 years of life and service.
The senators prayed for continued good health, wisdom and strength for the Sultan, as well as many more years of service to the Sultanate, the Muslim community, northern Nigeria and the country.
“Happy 70th Birthday, Your Eminence. May your years ahead be filled with greater accomplishments, peace and divine blessings,” the statement said
