Agada Draws Line on 2027 Alliances, Demands Ideology Before Power

Presidential aspirant of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Arc. Dr. Peter Agada, has drawn a line on the growing calls for political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Agada, a former Labour Party presidential aspirant, said he would not support a coalition whose only purpose was to remove an incumbent government and take over power.
He said any alliance seeking his support must first present a clear programme for solving Nigeria’s economic and social problems.
Speaking ahead of the YPP substitution primary scheduled for Friday, August 21, Agada said Nigeria needed political parties driven by ideas and policies rather than personal ambitions.
He said poverty, insecurity, unemployment, poor healthcare and challenges in education should be at the centre of any serious political programme.
Agada also questioned Nigeria’s continued reliance on foreign loans, saying the country could do more with its own resources by reducing waste, corruption and the high cost of governance.
He said his proposed government would operate a leaner system and channel more public funds into productive sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure and job creation.
The YPP aspirant also explained his “Ward Capitalism” idea, which he said was designed to move economic opportunities and development closer to ordinary Nigerians.
According to him, communities should not continue waiting for development to trickle down from Abuja.
Agada said his LabourDirect programme would remain focused on the dignity of labour, economic inclusion, production and grassroots development.
He explained that his decision to move from the Labour Party to the YPP was based on ideology and the need to work on a platform that shares his political vision.
“I don’t want power simply because power is available,” he said.
Agada said he was prepared to continue building his political movement even if he failed to win the presidency in 2027.
He said the Movement Nigeria would continue to mobilise young people, women, professionals and grassroots supporters around his ideas for national development.
Agada said his wider goal was to build a Nigeria where citizens could participate in the economy and have better opportunities regardless of their background.
“Ultimately, my politics comes down to one thing: Nigeria must work for Nigerians,” he said.
