The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of HallowMace Foundation Africa, Amb. Anderson Osiebe, has said the newly inaugurated National Legislative Awards are aimed at promoting excellence, accountability and public confidence in Nigeria’s legislature.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the National Legislative Awards 2026 held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja, Osiebe said the initiative marks a decade of the foundation’s commitment to strengthening democratic governance and recognising outstanding legislative performance.
The event, chaired by former Senate President, Senator Ameh Ebute, with Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio as Special Guest of Honour, brought together federal and state lawmakers, parliamentary stakeholders, civil society organisations, development partners and members of the diplomatic community.
Addressing the gathering, Osiebe described the awards as more than a ceremony, saying they represent “a convergence of vision, excellence and democratic accountability.”
He noted that the awards were conceived as a strategic platform to encourage quality representation, effective lawmaking, robust oversight and greater accountability within Nigeria’s legislative institutions.
“For ten uninterrupted years, HallowMace Africa has remained committed to one mission: strengthening democracy and the legislature, recognising performance, and rewarding impact,” he said.
According to him, the foundation has, over the past decade, sustained advocacy for legislative reforms through policy engagement, annual conferences and partnerships with parliamentary institutions across the country.
Osiebe explained that the National Legislative Awards evolved from those efforts and were designed to inspire healthy competition among lawmakers while rebuilding citizens’ trust in the legislature.
He said winners emerged through a transparent selection process that combined public online voting with extensive consultations involving key parliamentary stakeholders.
“The finalists represent the pinnacle of legislative diligence across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. They have demonstrated excellence in lawmaking, effective representation, oversight and constituent service,” he stated.
He urged the award recipients to view the recognition as a call to greater responsibility rather than a destination.
“This recognition is not an endpoint but a call to greater service. It reflects the trust reposed in you and challenges you to continue raising the bar of legislative excellence,” he said.
Osiebe also expressed appreciation to the foundation’s partners, including the International Goodwill Ambassador Club, ERGAF Africa and the Isabella Ayuk Foundation, for supporting its decade-long campaign for democratic accountability.
As HallowMace Foundation Africa celebrated its 10th anniversary, the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, good governance and stronger legislative institutions, insisting that a vibrant and accountable parliament remains essential to Nigeria’s democratic development.
