Jigawa Governor urges youths to register, strengthen democracy through participate

In a strong call to civic action, Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has urged residents—especially the state’s youth—to seize their democratic power by registering for voter cards ahead of upcoming elections.
The appeal came during the commissioning of a newly built mosque in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, where Governor Namadi was represented by his deputy, Engr. Aminu Usman. The governor highlighted a worrying trend: thousands of eligible voters in Jigawa have yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“Being part of the electoral process is not just a right—it is a responsibility,” the governor said, stressing that active participation is key to shaping a government that listens and responds to the people.
Governor Namadi called on community leaders, traditional rulers, religious heads, and youth groups to play an active role in mobilising residents, noting that higher voter participation directly strengthens democratic institutions and ensures more accountable leadership.
Adding weight to the message, the Emir of Dutse, His Highness Hamim Nuhu Sanusi, appealed for peace and tolerance throughout the electoral process. He warned that electoral violence undermines community harmony and development, urging politicians and citizens alike to respect democratic norms and work together to safeguard Jigawa’s stability.
The governor’s message comes at a time when engaging the youth in governance has become a national priority, highlighting that the future of democracy rests not just in institutions, but in the hands of informed, responsible citizens
