Salem University, Lokoja, will on Friday confer degrees on 168 graduands, including four First Class honours, at its 7th Convocation Ceremony.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Alewo Johnson Akubo announced this during a press conference on Tuesday, revealing that 93 graduands earned Second Class Upper Division, 31 Second Class Lower, and eight Third Class, alongside several postgraduate awardees.
Expressing gratitude for what he described as another milestone in the university’s journey, Prof. Akubo lauded the founding Chancellor, Archbishop Dr. Sam Amaga, whose “unwavering faith, vision, and compassion” he said continue to shape the institution into a centre of moral and academic excellence.
He also appreciated the support of Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, partner institutions, and the media.
Prof. Akubo highlighted Salem University’s track record of a stable academic calendar, zero tolerance for malpractice, and its newly approved Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme—an initiative he said positions the institution as an emerging medical hub in North-Central Nigeria.
Beyond that, the university has secured full approval to commence Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, and Ph.D programmes across disciplines including Biochemistry, Mass Communication, Law, and International Relations. It is also expanding into Engineering, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences—fields expected to boost research, innovation, and community development.
“Our students graduate as scheduled. This reflects our discipline, integrity, and commitment to academic excellence,” he said, adding that employers have consistently commended the university’s graduates for their competence and uprightness.
The Vice Chancellor appealed to the Kogi State government to invest further in the university in recognition of its economic and societal contributions. He also commended Governor Ododo’s efforts in improving workers’ welfare.
