The South South Media Professionals Forum (SSMPF) has announced the death of its treasurer, Madam Stella Okoh-Esene, who passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the National Hospital, Abuja.
In a statement signed by the forum’s secretary, Emmanuel Iriogbe, SSMPF described Okoh-Esene as a pioneer member who served with diligence and left a lasting impact on the group.
“She will be sorely missed for her motherly role and wise counsel. It is for us mortals to grieve the passing of a loved one but for God to grant eternal repose to the deceased,” the statement read.
Until her passing, Okoh-Esene also held the position of former Chairman of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT chapter, where she advocated strongly for the welfare and representation of women in journalism.
Her death has been described by colleagues as a huge loss to the Nigerian media industry.
Stella Okoh-Esene was a seasoned journalist, administrator, and advocate for women in the newsroom.
She once served as Chairman of the NAWOJ, FCT chapter, where she worked to improve conditions for female journalists and championed the cause of gender balance in leadership roles.
As a pioneer member and treasurer of the SSMPF, she brought integrity and diligence to her work, overseeing the forum’s financial responsibilities with distinction.
Beyond her professional achievements, Stella was remembered for her motherly guidance, mentorship, and compassionate spirit, qualities that endeared her to colleagues and younger journalists alike.
Her legacy rests not only in the offices she held but also in the lives she touched and the ideals of professionalism she upheld.
She is survived by her family and a broad circle of colleagues who continue to mourn her departure.
Adieu Stella, your light will not be forgotten.
