The Kogi State Police Command has organized an awareness and sensitization campaign for scrap and waste dealers on the identification, risks, and safe management of explosive-related objects often mistaken for scrap materials.

The campaign, coordinated by the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Base 33, Lokoja, was held at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja in collaboration with the National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria (NASWDEN), Kogi State chapter.

Leading the session, CSP Danladi Ameh, Commander of EOD Base 33, educated participants on how to identify suspicious items, understand their risks, and apply safe handling procedures. He stressed the importance of promptly reporting suspicious metallic objects to the authorities and adhering to safety protocols to prevent avoidable loss of lives and property.

He also provided practical training on recognizing potential explosive ordnance and responding appropriately in such situations, while emphasizing the importance of strong partnerships between security agencies and stakeholders in maintaining public safety.

In a goodwill message, Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the safety of all residents in Kogi State. He urged members of the public, especially those in the scrap and waste business, to remain vigilant and work closely with security agencies to prevent explosive-related incidents.
