The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) has scaled up its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to N3 billion monthly, with new measures in place to push the figures higher.

Executive Chairman of KGIRS, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe, announced the milestone at the Stewardship Accountability Forum organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Lokoja on Thursday.

Enehe credited the feat to a committed management team and a seamless tax administration system, noting that the service had already surpassed its half-year revenue target.

“We will not allow this figure to drop but to continue rising. Our 10 per cent IGR allocation is prudently used for staff salaries, operations, and welfare. We have promoted staff, built capacity, and boosted morale for higher productivity,” he said.

The KGIRS boss highlighted the introduction of a Central Billing System and Automated Taxation as key reforms to plug revenue leakages and strengthen compliance. He also pointed to the new Nigeria Revenue Tax Act, set to take effect in January 2026, which harmonizes all tax laws into a single framework to curb double taxation.

Enehe admitted that taxpayer resistance and enforcement hurdles remain the biggest challenges. He urged residents to embrace prompt tax payment to enable government deliver more dividends of democracy.

He assured that KGIRS will sustain its collaboration with the media to deepen public awareness and accountability.

Earlier, Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman, Mr. Segun Salami, said the forum was designed to provide a platform for leaders to account for their stewardship and engage directly with citizens.
