The political tide may be turning in Jigawa State as 573 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Sabuwar Dan Masara in Dutse Local Government Area officially switched allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday.
The high-profile defection, held in the heart of the Jigawa Central zone, was spearheaded by Mustapha Adamu (a.k.a. Shugaba), who led the exodus of disenchanted APC loyalists.
He cited growing disillusionment with the APC’s leadership and a lack of internal democracy as key reasons for their exit.
“We can no longer remain in a party that has lost its soul. The APC has strayed far from its founding principles of fairness and justice,” Adamu declared.
“We believe the PDP represents a credible path forward and is better positioned to deliver on the promises made to Nigerians.”
He insisted that the APC has become deaf to the voices of its own people.
“We are proud to join the PDP—an organized and people-centered party that’s ready to rescue Nigeria.”
He called on other aggrieved APC loyalists across the state to “join the movement for a better Jigawa and a better Nigeria.”
The defectors were received by PDP Deputy State Chairman Umar Danjani, along with other PDP chieftains from the Jigawa Central zone, who described the event as a “turning point in the political reawakening of the state.”
“What you’re witnessing here is not just defection—it’s a political revolution. The people are taking back their power,” Danjani declared. “This is just the beginning.”
Also present were key stakeholders of the PDP Central bloc who reaffirmed their commitment to grassroots mobilization and inclusive governance.
The development is seen by analysts as a warning sign for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in Jigawa Central, where political loyalty is shifting rapidly.
