    ***Says Coalition Poses No Threat

    By Umar Muhammed, Lafia

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has declared that former party members who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition no longer command political relevance and pose no threat ahead of future elections.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the party’s Public Relations Officer and Secretary to the State Chairman, Hamza Ibrahim, the PDP described the defectors as “expired political actors” whose influence was buried with their poor electoral performances in 2023.

“Let it be clear — these individuals are no longer political heavyweights. Most of them peaked decades ago and have since lost touch with the electorate,” the statement read.

The PDP challenged the media to verify the influence of the defectors in their respective polling units, wards, and local government areas.

“We invite anyone to review their results in the last general elections. A former minister, for instance, secured only seven votes for Atiku Abubakar in his own polling unit. A former senator failed to win his ward. Even a sitting minister lost disastrously in Karu.”

According to the party, the decision to accommodate their past indiscretions — including dragging the party to court — was based on respect for age and party unity, not an indication of weakness.

“Despite their constant undermining of the party, we extended grace. But they couldn’t even win in court. Their departure is a blessing, not a blow. Our members are, in fact, relieved and reinvigorated.”

The PDP assured its supporters that the party remains strong, growing, and focused. It urged the public to ignore what it described as “the hype” around the ADC coalition.

“The people of Nasarawa have already rejected the ADC alliance. The massive vote of confidence in PDP leadership across the zones and LGAs proves who the people trust.”

The statement concluded with a rallying call for party faithful and the wider electorate to remain resolute as the PDP prepares for future contests with renewed energy and unity.
