Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, has appointed John Michael-Abdul, a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State under the late Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma, as the interim chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

Abdul, formerly a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid a wave of defections shaking the opposition landscape in Nasarawa State.
His appointment as interim chairman was formally announced during a coalition meeting in Akwanga, the headquarters of Akwanga Local Government Area, by the party’s national leadership led by former Senate President David Mark.

At the same event, former PDP chieftain Jibrin Sabo-Keana was named Secretary of the state chapter, while Senator Patricia Akwashiki was appointed a member of the ADC Board of Trustees.

The meeting drew several political heavyweights including two former ministers—Musa Elayo (Minister of State for Justice) and Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi (former Minister of Environment).
Elayo joined the ADC from the PDP, while Abdullahi resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Other notable attendees included three-term Senator Suleiman Asonya Adokwe; retired General Nuhu Angbazo, a 2023 PDP governorship aspirant; former House of Representatives member Abdulkarim Ombamas; ESV Dr. Umar Musa Galadima; and Mr. Nathaniel Aboki, the PDP’s 2023 senatorial candidate.

Also present were sitting Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo (Nasarawa South); Miss Farida Umar, a recent PDP National Ex-Officio contestant; and Mr. William Alaku.

The stakeholders unanimously pledged to work together to build the ADC into a formidable force in the state and secure victory in the 2027 general elections. They emphasised the need for unity, fairness, party interest, and robust grassroots mobilisation as key priorities.

In his remarks, Abdul, who also serves as Coordinating Chairman of the Coalition in the state, urged the public—especially prospective members—to be patient, assuring that wider consultations and expanded meetings would be held soon across the state.
