In a major boost to agricultural productivity, Senator Babangida Hussain, representing Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District, has donated 12,000 bags of 50kg fertilizer to farmers across the 12 local government areas under his constituency.

The fertilizer distribution was officially flagged off in Sule-Tankarkar town, the headquarters of Sule-Tankarkar Local Government Area, where the senator reiterated his commitment to improving food security and empowering rural farmers.
“The fertilizer is being distributed free of charge to support our farmers during the rainy season and enhance food production across the constituency,” Senator Hussain declared. “This intervention is timely and critical, as fertilizer remains a key component of modern farming.”
He explained that each local government area will receive one truckload of fertilizer for direct distribution at the polling unit level, primarily targeting members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). An additional eight truckloads have been earmarked for registered farmers’ associations to help strengthen their capacity.
Senator Hussain said the commodity had already been handed over to the chairmen of the respective local government councils, who will serve as heads of the distribution committees in their areas. To facilitate seamless delivery, ₦500,000 has also been allocated to each council to cover transportation from the headquarters to the designated farmers’ collection centers.
He urged local committees to ensure transparency and fairness in the distribution process, and called on beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity.
In his goodwill remarks, the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, Professor Abdullah I. Shehu Ma’aji, described the initiative as being in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This kind of intervention promotes national food security, poverty eradication, and job creation, which are key pillars of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Professor Ma’aji said, promising continued support for people-oriented projects across the region.
Chairman of Sule-Tankarkar LGA, Hon. Tasiu Adamu, who spoke on behalf of the 12 council chairmen, commended Senator Hussain for the gesture and pledged that the distribution would be carried out with utmost accountability.
“We will ensure that genuine farmers and loyal party members benefit from this intervention to achieve its intended purpose,” he assured.
The fertilizer donation is expected to significantly improve yields and reduce input costs for thousands of smallholder farmers in the region, as the rainy season peaks across northern Nigeria.
