The Government and people of Kogi State have joined the rest of the nation in mourning the passing of elder statesman and business icon, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, describing him as “an institution whose legacy will live on for generations.”
Alhaji Dantata died on June 28, 2025, at the age of 94, leaving behind a towering legacy of enterprise, philanthropy, and national service.

In an official condolence statement issued in Lokoja, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, conveyed the deep sorrow of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the entire Kogi people over the loss of the respected statesman.
“Alhaji Aminu Dantata was not just a successful businessman; he was an institution in himself — a symbol of integrity, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the progress of Nigeria,” Fanwo stated.
He said Governor Ododo received the news of Dantata’s passing with a heavy heart and extended heartfelt condolences to the Dantata family, the government and people of Kano State, the Nigerian business community, and the nation at large.
“His contributions went far beyond boardrooms and balance sheets. He empowered thousands through his businesses, built schools and hospitals for the underprivileged, and gave quietly but consistently to causes that shaped lives and uplifted communities,” the Commissioner said.
According to him, Governor Ododo regards Alhaji Dantata as a model of purpose-driven leadership and deep-rooted patriotism — “a man of quiet influence who bridged generations and regions in pursuit of national unity and development.”
“Nigeria has indeed lost a rare gem,” Fanwo added.
The Kogi State Government prayed for the peaceful repose of Dantata’s soul and asked Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while offering comfort and strength to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
