The Labour Party(LP) has expressed deep grieve over the passing of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Uwais, as it called on the Federal Government to honour his legacy by fully implementing the recommendations contained in the Electoral Reform Report he chaired.
In a statement on Saturday, the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, described Justice Uwais as an outstanding jurist whose leadership and integrity greatly advanced Nigeria’s judicial system and democratic development.
Senator Usman emphasized that the Electoral Reform Report stands as a testament to Justice Uwais’ dedication to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and electoral process.
“To truly immortalise Justice Uwais’ contribution to the nation,” she said, “the government must act on the report’s recommendations, which provide a clear blueprint for credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.”
She expressed deep sympathy to the family of the late jurist, the legal community, and Nigerians, stating:
“Justice Mohammed Uwais was a beacon of integrity and an elder statesman whose impact will be felt for generations. His death is a significant loss to Nigeria.”
Senator Usman concluded with prayers for the departed soul:
“May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and provide comfort to his loved ones during this difficult time.”
