Edo State Governor, His Excellency Monday Okpebholo, has hailed the defection of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a landmark political shift with far-reaching implications for the South-South region.
Describing the move as both courageous and visionary, Governor Okpebholo said Governor Eno’s decision to join the APC demonstrates true leadership and a desire to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua in a statement quoted him thus,
“This defection is not just symbolic; it is strategic,” Okpebholo declared. “It brings Akwa Ibom closer to the centre of national development efforts and unlocks new doors for collaboration and federal support.”
He stressed that unity between the federal and state governments is critical to delivering real progress, and commended Governor Eno for prioritising the needs of his people above partisan loyalty.
“This is a win for Akwa Ibom, a win for the South-South, and a win for Nigeria,” Okpebholo noted. “I welcome my brother warmly and assure him of the full support of the APC family and the Edo State Government.”
Photos from the event showed both governors in high spirits, surrounded by other party leaders, with Governor Eno proudly donning his APC-branded attire as he was received into the party’s fold.
