Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s Government on Monday said it liquidated a total N98.8 billion debt since assumption of office 15 months ago.
The state Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Ashiru Idris, disclosed while briefing newsmen at end of the State Executive Council (EXCO) Meeting held at the Council Chambers, Government House, Lokoja.
The commissioner explained that the debts so far cleared include those dated as far back as the regime of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and 50 billion bailout fund granted the administration of Captain Idris Ichalla Wada.
“So far, this administration under the leadership of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has liquidated a total of N98.8 billion inherited from previous administration of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and the N50 billion salary bailout granted captain Idris Wada’s administration”, he said.
The commissioner said that this feat was achieved due to the significant increase in the internally generated revenue.
He said that development was made possible through the proactive efforts of the Chief Servant of the state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo who has charged the state Inland Revenue generation Agency with the mandate of enhancing the state revenue generation.
Earlier,the state Commissioner for information Kingsley Fanwo had outlined significant achievement of the government in terms of development of infrastructure.
They include the construction of perimeter fencing around the state owned Confluence State University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH ,Osara, following the security breach experienced on the campus last year.
The commissioner also announced the establishment of Climate change Agency to address the impact of climate change in the state. (Ends)
