Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has assured the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and Nigerians that he is committed to ensuring strict adherence to the rule of law particularly, respect for human rights.
Dantawaye gave the assurance when he paid a visit to the Confluence Bar branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Kogi during the monthly General Meeting of the Association at the NBA Conference Hall, Lokoja.
He stressed that the NBA and the Police have had a long history of working together for peaceful coexistence and wellbeing of the society stressing that “synergy” between law enforcement and the legal community is essential for Peace and Justice to thrive.
The CP also expressed his unwavering commitment to transparency, professionalism, and collaboration as he reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for police misconduct.
He assured that any officer found wanting would be held accountable as he expressed his openness to continuous engagement with the NBA and other stakeholders to improve policing standards and public trust.
Dantawaye who said the visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Police and the Bar for effective Policing of Kogi State solicited continued partnership and support as he expressed the desire to work collaboratively with the NBA.
In his welcome remarks, Hon. Muiz Abdullah (SAN), Kogi State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, described the visit as the first of its kind in the history of NBA that a CP, who is not a lawyer, had shown such a keen and active interest in the affairs of the Association.
He further commended the CP Dantawaye for changing the narrative, stressing that the his willingness to engage with the NBA to work collaboratively and understand the legal profession is commendable.
“We believe this will foster better relations and promote Justice”, the Attorney General said.
Receiving the CP earlier, Chairman of the Confluence Bar, Mr Samuel Akoji Esq. described the NBA as the voice and heartbeat of the legal profession in Nigeria.
The Bar chairman emphasized the importance of synergy between the police and the legal profession in promoting justice, the rule of law, and public safety.
He expressed his gratitude to the CP and his team for the visit and engagement with the Bar during their monthly meeting.
Akoji stressed uniqueness of the visit as the first of its kind with Dantawaye as the first Commissioner of Police in the State to have visited the NBA during their monthly meeting.
He assured the CP that the NBA Kogi State, would leverage on this platform to improve on its relationship with the Police in Kogi State. (,Ends)
