Dorben Polytechnic has marked its 30th anniversary with a celebration highlighting three decades of academic growth, national contribution, and commitment to technical education in Nigeria.
The milestone was commemorated alongside the institution’s 26th matriculation ceremony, drawing dignitaries from across the education sector, including representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and Abuja community leaders.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, represented by Deputy Director of Polytechnic Education, Mrs. Olubisi Olagbenro, praised Dorben Polytechnic for its consistent efforts in expanding access to quality education and technical training.
“Dorben has proven that private institutions can play a critical role in national development,” the Minister said. “Its contribution over the past 30 years aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes technical and vocational education as a driver of youth empowerment.”
Founded in 1995 with just a single rented office space, Dorben Polytechnic has since grown into a full-fledged institution offering over 25 accredited National and Higher National Diploma programmes in engineering, business, science, and media studies. The institution now operates two campuses and maintains affiliations with institutions abroad.
Chairman of Dorben Polytechnic’s Governing Board, Reverend Joshua John, recounted the school’s humble beginnings and steady progress. “We started with only one office and 25 students,” he said. “Today, our graduates are contributing meaningfully to the workforce, and many are job creators across various sectors.”
Dr. Usman also unveiled the institution’s roadmap for the future, calling for continued investment in digital learning, entrepreneurship, and alumni engagement. “Dorben is not just reflecting on the past; we are reaching for the future,” he said.

The event ended with a call to action for all stakeholders—staff, students, alumni, and honorary fellows—to uphold Dobain’s legacy and pursue greater excellence.
The event also highlighted national policies such as the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and the newly launched National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which are expected to strengthen technical education and ensure financial access for students.
As Dorben Polytechnic reflects on three decades of service, the institution reaffirmed its commitment to building skilled, ethical, and entrepreneurial graduates who will continue to make a difference in Nigeria and beyond.
