Panic gripped the Tudun Kauri area of Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Wednesday following the discovery of the lifeless body of a 37-year-old man, Yusuf Ibrahim Kasimu, believed to have been murdered by suspected assassins late Tuesday night.
The incident occurred near the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, close to the premises of the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS), sending shockwaves through the local community.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased, a staff member of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), was found face-down in a pool of blood, with severe head injuries.
Sources suggest he may have been attacked by individuals he had attempted to help, who then allegedly struck him and fled with his motorcycle.
The identity of the victim was initially unknown until his relatives arrived at the scene and confirmed it was Yusuf.
His uncle, Umaru Kasimu, who spoke to reporters, condemned the brutal killing and urged security agencies to act swiftly in tracking down the perpetrators. “This is a tragic and senseless loss. We demand justice,” he said.
Police spokesperson, SP Rahman Nansel, confirmed the incident, stating that the Nasarawa State Command had launched an investigation. “We are working to uncover the full details and ensure those behind this act face the law,” he said.
The killing has sparked renewed calls for stronger security presence in Lafia and its environs.
