Easter: Akpabio Urges End to Bloodshed, Calls for National Healing and Moral Rebirth

In a stirring Easter message that cuts through the noise of Nigeria’s deep divisions, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has issued a heartfelt call for national healing, urging citizens to embrace peace, compassion, and unity in the face of escalating violence and political discord.
Describing Nigeria as a nation “in need of healing from self-inflicted wounds”, Akpabio reflected on the solemn significance of Easter — a time when Christians commemorate resurrection, renewal, and redemption — as the perfect moment for the country to begin a national rebirth.
“This Easter, we must confront our shared pain with shared purpose,” Akpabio declared in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh. “We must stop the bleeding — both figuratively and literally — by choosing peace over provocation, dialogue over division, and love over hatred.”
In a tone both urgent and pastoral, the Senate President pleaded with those fueling conflict to lay down arms, calling violence a betrayal of the country’s potential and the dignity of human life.
“No grievance justifies the taking of innocent lives,” he warned. “Respect for human life must be our collective creed.”
Akpabio’s Easter message did not stop at rhetoric. He challenged Nigerians to extend hands of compassion to the displaced, the grieving, and the broken — reminding them that faith is not a feeling but a function, especially in times of national hardship.
“Easter is not just a celebration,” he said. “It is a call to action — to live out the message of Christ by promoting healing, reconciliation, and unity in our communities.”
With the backdrop of rising insecurity and growing public distrust in leadership, Akpabio’s words resonate as a moral roadmap, not just for Christians but for a nation desperately searching for a new path.
He concluded by urging sustained prayers for national transformation and for leaders at every level to serve with empathy, vision, and accountability. Echoing hope, he affirmed:
“Nigeria’s best days can still be ahead — but only if we choose healing over hatred.”
As the country marks Easter, Akpabio’s message serves as both a lament and a summons — a call to reclaim the soul of a nation wounded, but not broken.
