Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the brutal killing of Northern travelers in Uromi, Edo State, describing it as a disturbing sign of Nigeria’s deepening security collapse.

Expressing shock over the tragedy, Obi warned that the rising trend of mob violence threatens national unity and must be stopped immediately.

“This is not just an attack on innocent travelers—it is an attack on the very fabric of our society,” he said. “No Nigerian should live in fear of being unlawfully targeted or killed simply for traveling within their own country.”

Reports indicated that the victims were accused of being kidnappers and lynched by a mob without investigation. Obi cautioned that while insecurity remains a major concern, resorting to jungle justice only worsens the crisis.

He commended the government for launching an investigation but insisted that swift justice must be served—not just for these victims, but also for Edo indigenes who have suffered similar violence.

“This tragedy underscores the urgent need for strengthened security and public education,” he stated. “Communities must work with law enforcement, not take the law into their own hands.”

Obi extended his condolences to the bereaved families, urging Nigerians to unite against all forms of violence and injustice.

With tensions rising over the incident, citizens are calling for immediate reforms to curb mob killings and restore law and order across the nation.
