The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned of planned politically sponsored protests in parts of the state, allegedly orchestrated by individuals linked to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement signed by its chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, the party claimed that these demonstrations are not genuine expressions of public concern but rather attempts to create unrest and destabilize the state.
“We have received credible intelligence that these protests are being sponsored by certain individuals within the dysfunctional PDP. Their goal is not to address any real grievances but to incite tension and disrupt the peace of Edo State,” the statement read.
The APC further alleged that misinformation was being deliberately circulated ahead of the protests to manipulate public perception and undermine the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
While reaffirming the governor’s commitment to citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly, the party insisted that the planned demonstrations were politically motivated. It urged residents to distance themselves from the protests and instead engage with the government through appropriate channels to address any legitimate concerns.
The statement also warned that law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert and will take all necessary legal measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
“The government is fully prepared to ensure the safety and security of all residents. We call on community leaders, parents, and stakeholders to advise against participation in these protests, which are aimed at destabilizing the state for selfish political gains,” the APC stated.
The party reassured Edo residents that the Okpebholo administration remains focused on delivering good governance, infrastructure development, and economic growth. It urged citizens to remain law-abiding and continue supporting the government’s efforts to build a stable and prosperous Edo State.
