The First Lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has emphasized the need for tangible actions to accelerate gender equality, urging stakeholders to move beyond rhetoric by creating real opportunities for women and girls.

In a statement marking International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, celebrated under the theme “Accelerate Action,” Mrs. Ododo acknowledged the strides made in women’s rights advocacy but stressed that more must be done to dismantle systemic barriers.

“This year’s theme is a call to action. We must ensure that policies promoting education, economic inclusion, and social justice for women are implemented effectively,” she stated.

Reaffirming her commitment to women’s empowerment in Kogi State, she highlighted initiatives geared toward education, economic growth, and the fight against gender-based violence. She also called for collaborative efforts to eliminate suppression, intimidation, and violence against women.

“Women are the backbone of our society. Let us uplift one another, support our dreams, and demand a society that values and respects our contributions,” Mrs. Ododo urged.

Celebrating the women of Kogi, she paid tribute to everyday heroines—entrepreneurs, caregivers, and leaders—who drive progress in their communities and inspire the next generation.

As the world commemorates IWD 2025, the Kogi First Lady’s message serves as a rallying call for policymakers, organizations, and individuals to translate advocacy into impactful policies and programs that empower women beyond mere promises.
