Kano Emir asks for peace following Appeal Court’s verdict on enthronement
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called for calm and peaceful coexistence following the Court of Appeal’s verdict affirming his appointment as the 16th Emir of Kano.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Court of Appeal overturned an earlier ruling by the Federal High Court in Kano, which had nullified Sanusi’s reinstatement in favor of his predecessor, Aminu Ado Bayero.
Reacting to the judgment, Sanusi described the ruling as a reflection of God’s will and urged the people of Kano to avoid any actions that could lead to unrest.
“As you all know, the Appeal Court has confirmed today that the State High Court has no jurisdiction over emirate issues. This judgment was expected, and those who initiated the case in court knew this all along,” he stated.
Sanusi criticized those who attempted to exploit the judiciary for personal gains, stating that their efforts were aimed at inciting chaos. However, he commended the people of Kano for maintaining peace during the legal dispute.
“Our greatest achievement is that the state has remained peaceful. There has been no violence or disorder. We call on everyone to continue maintaining peace and unity,” he said.
The Emir emphasized the importance of trusting in divine intervention, urging citizens not to engage with individuals seeking to provoke conflict. He added, “Let us not respond to their actions. Whoever questions God’s judgment will ultimately face the consequences.”
Sanusi concluded by praying for continued peace and urging Kano residents to prioritize unity and stability over divisive tendencies.

Sanusi’s Emirship Saga Heads to Supreme Court
The legal tussle over the Kano emirship dispute has taken a new turn as the Sarki Dawakin Babba of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’Agundi, vowed to challenge the Court of Appeal’s verdict at the Supreme Court.
Reacting to the Appeal Court’s recent decision, which overturned an earlier Federal High Court ruling, Dan’Agundi expressed strong dissatisfaction. He maintained that Aminu Ado Bayero remains the legitimate Emir of Kano and emphasized his resolve to pursue justice at the apex court.
The Appeal Court ruled that Justice Abdullahi Liman of the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction over chieftaincy disputes, asserting such matters fall exclusively under state high courts. Despite this, Dan’Agundi urged the Kano State Government and Sanusi Lamido Sanusi not to celebrate the ruling prematurely, insisting that the final verdict lies with the Supreme Court.
The legal battle has reignited tensions in Kano’s traditional hierarchy, spotlighting the complexities of resolving chieftaincy conflicts within Nigeria’s legal framework.
Observers now await the Supreme Court’s decision, which is expected to set a defining precedent for emirship disputes in the country.
