Lado urges agencies to respect Senate’s Invitations for Enhanced Governance
The Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters Senator Basheer Lado has emphasized the critical importance of collaborative engagement between Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and the National Assembly, particularly its Senate committees.
The call comes as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing transparency, accountability, and effective governance within the Nigerian government.
he spoke on Monday at the national Assembly during an interaction with newsmen where he reiterated that cooperation with the Senate is not merely a constitutional requirement but a fundamental component of achieving President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to deliver rapid and transformative benefits to the Nigerian populace.
According to him by prioritizing responses to Senate invitations, agencies can play a pivotal role in showcasing their dedication to public service and reinforcing the confidence of citizens in their government.
Despite challenges posed by competing official commitments, Lado noted that engaging with Senate committees is an essential opportunity for MDAs to demonstrate their commitment to accountability and good governance.
he explained further that the lack of consistent adherence to Senate requests has raised concerns, prompting a renewed appeal for agencies to prioritize these engagements.
“Honoring Senate invitations is vital for fostering a proactive, respectful, and transparent relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms of government,” the Office stated. “This partnership is instrumental in delivering on our promises to the nation.”
He reiterated that the call for enhanced cooperation is in agreement with the administration’s overarching goals of swift and effective governance.
“By ensuring that all government bodies engage meaningfully with the Senate, Nigeria can strengthen its democratic institutions and ensure that the interests of the people are at the forefront of governmental operations.’
As the nation looks towards a future of improved governance and accountability, Lado expressed his commitment to facilitating open communication between agencies and the National Assembly, urging all government entities to honor their constitutional obligations and respond to Senate engagements.
This collaborative spirit is expected to bolster public confidence and support the administration’s efforts in achieving its ambitious agenda for national development.
