LP’s Akpata dismisses rumors of withdrawal, says he is commited to Edo Governorship Race

Labour Party’s Edo State governorship candidate, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, has strongly denied rumors circulating that he plans to withdraw from the race and endorse the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
In a statement released on Friday, September 20, 2024, Akpata dismissed the claims as “wicked rumors” and “evil machinations” designed to mislead the electorate ahead of Saturday’s election.

Akpata made it clear that he remains fully committed to the race and that the idea of stepping down at the final hour, especially after receiving overwhelming support from Edo residents, is delusional.
He criticized those behind the false reports, accusing them of attempting to undermine his campaign and maintain the status quo that has held the state captive for a quarter of a century.

He also pointed out the incompetence behind the forgery, citing an error in the date on the fraudulent document, which mistakenly referenced July 29, 2024, instead of the correct date. “Such incompetence would be laughable if it were not so sinister in its intent,” Akpata remarked.

Addressing his supporters, Akpata urged them to disregard the “desperate ploys” of those spreading the rumors, reassuring them that his resolve remains firm. “Our cause is just, and our vision for our great state remains clear and unwavering,” he said.

He also called on journalists and media outlets to ensure accurate reporting and diligent verification of information during these crucial hours before the election, emphasizing that responsible journalism is key to safeguarding the integrity of the democratic process.

Akpata finally urged all eligible voters in Edo State to go out and exercise their right to vote on election day, vowing that those responsible for the forgery will be brought to justice.
“I have been inundated with a flood of calls and messages from friends and supporters, which constrains me to release this statement to dispel the wicked rumour Circulating that I have decided to step down and support the PDP candidate in tomorow’s governorship election.
“This falsehood is illustrative of the evil machinations of those who have held our State captive for a quarter of a century and demonstrates the shallowness that has characterised their governance style.”
