GOVERNOR Yahaya Bello of Kogi state has described the demise of the Leadership Correspondent in Kogi State, Mr Sam Egwu as a painful and great loss.
Bello in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Mohammed condoled the family of the late journalist, management and staff of the Leadership Newspaper as well as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the loss.
He also described the late journalist as a man of truth and fairness who practised journalism with professional ethics.
The Governor said that the Journalism profession has lost one of its most dedicated and upright members and noted that the late Egwu would be remembered for his objectivity, diligence and hard work.
Bello prayed the Almighty God to grant the soul of Elder Sam Egwu eternal rest and members of his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
The late Sam Augustine Alfa Egwu was born in Awo-Akukunda, Ankpa. Local Government Area in 1955. An alumnus of St. Charles College, Ankpa and Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos.
He worked with the first community newspaper in Kogi, “The Message” at Idah, Hallmark Newspapers, Lagos; Daily Trust Newspapers as Correspondent in Kogi; Peoples’ Daily and Leadership, his last stable.
He covered sports tournaments in Algeria and Egypt among others. (Ends)
