The Federal Capital Territory Administration has reaffirmed its commitment to partner with well-meaning organizations towards improving the healthcare delivery services in the Territory.
Special adviser on Media, Austine Elemue in a press Statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja quoted theFCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, to have spoken during the FCTA/USAID steering committee meeting held in her office.
The minister said, the meeting was meant to provide an avenue for highest policy decision to address identified gaps for successful and result-oriented partnership.
Aliyu revealed that since the inaugural meeting of the steering committee in August 2021, so much progress had been made to address and improve healthcare delivery in Federal Capital Territory.
According to her, progress made includes collaboration with Integrated Health Programme (IHP) to make over 40 Primary Health Care Facilities (PHCFs) across the six area councils to improve the infrastructure of the PHCFs and capacity for the delivery of quality healthcare services and development of the 2023 harmonized health sector annual operational plan.
Other milestones include capacity building of health workers in public and private health facilities, ongoing integrated supportive supervision in FCT which has resulted in improved service delivery, and ongoing massive COVID 19 vaccination and routine immunization in FCT.
She emphasised that the meeting would provide an avenue to address pertinent issues affecting performance of the MOU and review the annual performance against the set milestones/targets.
In his contributions, the FCT Mandate Secretary, Health and Human Services Secretariat, Dr. Abubakar Tafida, appreciated USAID and other development partners for what he described as “positive partnership”,
He also used the occasion to acknowledge the efforts of the implementing partners (IP), while assuring them of the administration’s commitment towards the revitalization of the primary healthcare system in the territory.
Recall that the United States Agency for International Development/Nigeria (USAID/Nigeria) and Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in December 2020 to establish collaboration between both parties to improve the health of FCT residents.
The goal of the MoU is to facilitate the revitalization of the FCT healthcare system to deliver quality, affordable, sustainable primary healthcare services to the residents of FCT through the implementation of health interventions and reforms.
