A 60-year old commercial motorcyclist and father of 30 children Abdulsalam Ibrahim, along with his passenger were on Friday crushed by a Tipper truck at Ganaja Junction of Lokoja, Kogi state.

Kogi state Commandant of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Stephen Dawulung, confirmed the tragic incident on Monday in Lokoja.

Dawulung said the incident happened around Dunamis Junction on Lokoja-Ganaja-Ajaokuta road at about 10.46am on Friday.

He said that the incident happened when a truck hit a motorcyclist from behind and crushed the motorcyclist and his passenger immediately.

The Sector Commander who described the accident as a case of hit and run said his men responded to a distress call to the area immediately it happened.

He said that the tipper driver  zoomed off after crushing the bike rider and his passenger leaving their mangled bodies on the road for sympathisers.

Dawulung said that each of the corpses was deposited at the morgues of Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja and Ankuri Hospital, Lokoja respectively.

The FRSC Sector Commander urged motorists to observe safety measures including speed limit as he advised motorcyclists to always put on their helmet to avoid head injuries.

Also speaking on the accident, Chairman Kogi State Motorcycle Riders’ Association, Mallam Musa Baba Aliyu, said that the ill-fated rider was a registered member of the Union in Kogi who hailed from Katsina state.

He said that the victim, Ibrahim met his untimely death when he veered off his lane and fell in front of a Tipper truck which was in motion.

He said that Ibrahim, who had 30 children was trying to avoid hitting a commercial tricycle (Keke-NAPEP) which took one-way and was heading towards him from the opposite direction.

Aliyu said that while the motorcyclist’s corpse was identified, the identity of the passenger who died along with him could not be established immediately as there was nothing left on his remains to identify him.

The Okada riders’ boss urged trucks and other heavy duty vehicle drivers and all motorists to always consider other road users while plying the roads and urged his members to always exercise caution while riding.
