    From Naseer Mijinyawa Minna.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Niger State Chapter, has decried the incessant assault and attack on practicing medical doctors in the state.

The secretary of the association in Niger State Dr. Idah Mohammed in a statement issued in Minna on Tuesday said some law enforcement agents are quick to assault their members even without any provocation

He disclosed that a senior police officer in Suleja Area Command by name ACP Sani Badarawa had on the 8th of December, assaulted a medical doctor in the premises of Suleja General Hospital.
According to the secretary, two members of the association were recently assaulted while discharging their professional duties in their duty post.
He added that the NMA is currently pursuing a case of assault on two of its members at a Minna chief Magistrate court No 2.
He described the rising incidents of assault and battery on serving medical doctors in Niger State as unfutunate
“It is on record that medical doctors are honourable law abiding citizens who have distinguished themselves as public servants in the provision of healthcare services to the general public. Hence, medical doctors should not be victims of assault and battery” he stated.
The statement admonished members of the public and security officers to see reason why they should relate peacefully with medical personnel and medical doctors.
He demanded that they desist from assaulting medical doctors “but Chanell their grievances through appropriate quarters for redress”
The secretary assured the good people of Niger State of the association’s unflinching support in the delivery of qualitative healthcare services.
He noted that NMA as an umbrella body for all medical doctors will continue to execute their professional responsibility for the betterment of the people of Niger State at all times.
