The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Joe Majebi, has inaugurated Barr. Bello Mohammed Musa as a Notary Public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, charging him to uphold integrity, honesty and transparency in the discharge of his duties.
Justice Majebi performed the inauguration ceremony at the Kogi State High Court headquarters in Lokoja following the approval of the appointment by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
Administering the oath of office, the Chief Judge described the appointment as a call to higher responsibility, noting that the office of a Notary Public requires discipline, credibility and accountability.
According to him, the appointment reflects the quality and professionalism of legal practitioners in Kogi State.
“This appointment is a pointer to the fact that ours are very serious Bar branches in the state. It also points to our intellectuality, humility and transparency,” Justice Majebi stated.
He congratulated the new appointee and reminded him that the oath he had taken underscored the need to avoid fraud and misconduct in carrying out his official responsibilities.
Justice Majebi noted that Barr. Bello underwent a rigorous screening process before his appointment was approved by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, adding that he was found worthy in character, dedication and honesty.
The Chief Judge further urged the new Notary Public to sustain the reputation that earned him the appointment and avoid actions capable of bringing the legal profession into disrepute.
“Know too that the appointment can be terminated and prosecution may follow if fraud is involved. We therefore expect you to shine more in the discharge of these responsibilities,” he warned.
Barr. Bello Mohammed Musa, a private legal practitioner with experience in litigation, corporate practice and commercial transactions, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2015 after earning his LL.B degree from Kogi State University and completing his professional training at the Nigerian Law School.
Responding after taking the oath, Barr. Bello expressed appreciation to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Kogi State Chief Judge and the judiciary for finding him worthy of the appointment.
“My Lord, I promise that having taken this oath, I will not disappoint the judiciary. I will protect the integrity of the profession and contribute my quota decently,” he assured.
