The Northern Senators Forum has called for the establishment of a Forward Operating Base and intensified intelligence-led security operations in Taraba State following the deadly attack on Binari community in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.
The forum also demanded a thorough investigation into the October 23 attack, which reportedly claimed the lives of worshippers, vigilantes, women and children shortly after Juma’at prayers.
In a condolence message issued on Monday, the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, condemned the killings and expressed sympathy with the Taraba State Government, residents of the affected community and families of the victims.
Yar’Adua described the incident as barbaric, saying the forum received the news of the killings with shock and shared in the grief of the bereaved families.
He called on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to urgently strengthen security operations in Karim-Lamido and the River Benue corridor.
The senator specifically advocated the establishment of a Forward Operating Base and the deployment of intelligence-led patrols along the Kompany-Asusar route to improve security and prevent further attacks.
He stressed the need for coordinated security action to track down those responsible for the killings and bring them to justice.
The forum also urged the National Emergency Management Agency and well-meaning individuals to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to affected residents.
It called for relief support for victims and families affected by the violence, alongside measures to address the immediate humanitarian consequences of the attack.
Yar’Adua extended the forum’s condolences to the people of Binari, praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased, the recovery of the injured and comfort for families who lost loved ones.
He also prayed for lasting peace in Taraba State and Nigeria, invoking Allah’s mercy on the departed.
The latest attack has renewed calls for stronger security measures in vulnerable communities and improved protection for residents, particularly in areas where armed violence threatens lives and livelihoods.
The Northern Senators Forum urged the relevant authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
