Kingibe Dismisses ICPC Allegation as False, Alleges Political Motive

Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, has firmly rejected claims that she was dragged before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over an alleged ₦100 million kickback, describing the report as false and politically motivated.
The allegation, published by a national daily, linked the lawmaker to a purported “fake contract,” a claim she categorically denied.
“Let it be stated clearly and without ambiguity, I have never been invited, queried, or contacted by the ICPC on this or any related matter,” she said.
Kingibe stressed that her role as a senator does not involve awarding contracts, noting that constituency projects are executed strictly by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in line with established procedures.
“As a Senator, I do not award contracts. Any attempt to associate me with contract awards reflects either a misunderstanding of government processes or deliberate misinformation,” she added.
Beyond the denial, the senator raised concerns over the timing of the report, pointing out that it surfaced shortly after her appearance on ARISE Television, where she openly criticised aspects of governance.
“How coincidental that this publication emerges the morning after I spoke candidly on national issues,” she said.
She warned that such developments suggest a pattern aimed at silencing dissenting voices.
“Those who choose to speak truth to power must now contend with attempts at intimidation and character assassination,” Kingibe stated.
Despite the controversy, the FCT lawmaker reaffirmed her commitment to accountability and transparency, insisting she would not be deterred.
“I will not be silenced. The Nigerian people deserve leaders who will speak boldly, not those who shrink from the truth,” she said.
