NNPP demands court rulings enforcement, challenges INEC over leadership recognition

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to comply fully with subsisting court judgments on its leadership structure, warning that continued disregard for judicial decisions could undermine democratic order ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a world press conference in Abuja on Monday, the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major (PhD), said the NNPP remains committed to internal democracy, rule of law, and institutional reforms as it intensifies preparations for the next electoral cycle.
He announced that the party’s ongoing electronic membership registration exercise, launched two weeks ago, has recorded strong nationwide participation and is currently undergoing review to improve transparency, efficiency, and inclusiveness.
According to him, the exercise is part of the NNPP’s broader effort to build a modern, technology-driven political platform that reflects the aspirations of Nigerians.
Dr. Major also distanced the party from a recent opposition coalition meeting held in Ibadan, insisting that NNPP was neither represented nor affiliated with the gathering.
“The NNPP did not attend and was not represented at that meeting. Those linked to it are not recognised members of our party, and their actions cannot be attributed to the NNPP,” he stated.
He cautioned coalition organisers against what he described as attempts to misrepresent the party’s identity for political gain.
On party leadership disputes, Dr. Major maintained that several court judgments—including rulings from Abia State High Court (2024), the FCT High Court (2025), and the Owerri Court of Appeal (2026)—have already resolved issues surrounding the party’s legitimate leadership.
He insisted that the judgments affirmed the removal of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other former officials from the party structure, adding that the rulings remain valid and unchallenged.
“Those judgments are clear and binding. They have not been set aside. Anyone acting outside them is not recognised by law as a representative of the NNPP,” he said.
The NNPP chairman further warned against what he described as impersonation and misrepresentation of party authority, following an alleged invitation to INEC signed by an expelled member, Dr. Ahmed Ajuji. He called for an investigation into the matter.
Dr. Major also disclosed that the party has submitted its 2027 election timetable to INEC and urged the commission to act swiftly on all outstanding court decisions affecting the party’s structure.
He warned that failure to implement valid judgments could force the NNPP to seek further judicial intervention.
As preparations for 2027 gather momentum, Dr. Major said the NNPP is positioning itself as a credible political alternative, open to Nigerians committed to reform, inclusion, and national development.
“The NNPP stands ready as a platform for a new Nigeria built on justice, competence, and democratic integrity,” he said.
