***Vice-Chancellor Describes His Death as a Monumental Loss to the Nation

The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, staff, and students, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of elder statesman, eminent businessman, and distinguished philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.

He died on Friday, 2nd of Al-Muharram, 1447 AH (corresponding to 27th June, 2025) in Abu Dhabi, at the venerable age of 94.

Describing the loss as monumental, Professor Abbas stated that Alhaji Dantata’s demise marked the end of an era defined by unwavering commitment to national development, moral leadership, and a profound dedication to human advancement.
Director of Public Affairs of the university, Lamara Garba, in a statement quoted him to have noted that the late icon’s legacy is deeply enshrined in Nigeria’s history—especially in Kano State and within the Bayero University community.

“Alhaji Aminu Dantata was far more than a philanthropist. He was a moral compass, a beacon of hope, and a father figure to countless individuals across the nation. His humility, wisdom, and lifelong devotion to service exemplified the highest ideals of humanity,” the Vice-Chancellor remarked.

Professor Abbas further highlighted that Alhaji Dantata’s contributions to Bayero University spanned decades, impacting virtually every aspect of institutional growth—from generous scholarship schemes and infrastructural development to enduring institutional partnerships.

“He firmly believed in the transformative power of education. His commitment enabled thousands of indigent students to pursue academic excellence and achieve life-changing goals.
“His legacy lives not only in the structures he helped erect but in the lives of generations who have benefitted from his magnanimity,” he added.

On behalf of the entire BUK family, Professor Abbas extended heartfelt condolences to the Dantata family, the Government and people of Kano State, and all Nigerians inspired by the remarkable life and legacy of the departed elder statesman.

The university fervently prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and bestows comfort and strength upon his family and loved ones in this time of immense loss.
